Chevalier Rings

Chevalier is the ring worn on the pinky finger of the dominant hand.

The word Chevalier in French means knight and the Chevalier ring has its roots in medieval French history. When someone became a knight, he also acquired a ring, which symbolized his new position and it was worn on the little finger. Usually, Chevalier rings depicted the coat of arms of the knight's family and they were a way of distinguishing between the families of the French aristocracy. Chevalier rings may also be monogrammed, with the first or last name initial.

Chevalier rings are usually small and discreet and preferably family heirlooms. But even if you don't have a chevalier ring in your family, it's never too late to start a new family tradition.

Signet ring

A signet ring is a special type of Chevalier ring. It has a flat face, which is usually engraved.

Signet rings have been used since antiquity and were very popular in ancient Egypt, where even Pharaoh had a signet - a seal ring. In the absence of a personal signature, signet rings had the personal symbol of the bearer engraved at the top, which was usually associated with the family coat of arms or its position. The owner of the ring would pure hot wax at the document he wanted to sign, press his signet ring up, and this would leave his mark on the document.

It could also be used as proof that a letter had not been opened before it reached its recipient. In this case, the sender would melt wax at the opening of the letter and press his ring on it. When the recipient received the letter, the seal had to be intact.

Despite their long history, chevalier rings have now been modernized with beautiful details and are worn by both men and women, highlighting your personal style. Whether minimal in signet style or decorated with enamel and precious and semi-precious stones, Chevalier rings now symbolize personal elegance and style.

Initially, signet rings were worn on the index finger, but now that they have lost their utility (as a seal), they are worn more often than not on the little finger. But since the signet and Chevalier rings emphasize your personal style, you don't have to follow in anyone's footsteps and wear the ring on your little finger. You can wear the chevalier ring in the middle or on the index finger.
