Cocktail rings are show-stopping rings, that usually feature a large, brightly colored precious or semi-precious gemstone. The purpose of cocktail rings is to attract attention and create a sense of joy and fun. They are called cocktail rings because, due to their size, they are not easy to wear all day long, and women have usually worn them in the hours before dinner, i.e. from cocktail hour onwards.

Some history on cocktail rings

Cocktail rings appeared first in women's jewelllery boxes in the 1920s in the USA. It was an important period for women as they had just earned the right to vote and other new freedoms that followed. These newfound freedoms were also reflected in their dress and appearance in general, as skirts and dresses became shorter along with hairstyles, while statement jewellery was now fashionable.

In the late 1920s, this carefree lifestyle came to an abrupt halt due to the Great Depression (1929) and subsequent World War II, but cocktail rings returned to fashion in the 1950s as rising living standards created great euphoria and a greater desire for social events.

Their popularity waned in the 1960s but cocktail rings were en vogue again in the 1980s, the decade when everything was bigger. In recent years, cocktail rings have been one of our favorite ring designs all day long.

How do we wear cocktail rings?

Cocktail rings are mostly worn on the ring or middle finger, although many women now choose to wear cocktail rings on the index finger, as well. Since a cocktail ring makes a statement on its own, we usually avoid wearing it on the same hand with our anniversary or wedding ring, or with other statement rings.

Cocktail rings, like all statement jewelry, can now be worn anytime, without restrictions or inhibitions, and always according to our mood.
