During the last few months, we have often written about strikingly large diamonds unearthed in diamond mines all over the world. We take a note of those findings because discovering diamonds over 100 carats is a rare phenomenon and is an important piece of news for the jewelry industry.

Moreover, following the auctions of these uncut diamonds and the cut process they undergo, we can understand not only the rarity of finding large diamonds but also how much work is needed to cut them in order to use them for jewelry making and of course the significant cost of acquiring them.

A 25-carat yellow diamond is the new find of Lucapa Diamond from the Mothae diamond mine in Lesotho. This is an important finding, as this particular pipe is just being prospected and evaluated for the time being. In addition to the yellow diamond, more diamonds over 5 carats have been discovered.

Mountain Province Diamonds recently announced the finding of a 95-carat diamond in a Canadian mine. It is a colorless, octagonal, high-purity diamond, the largest diamond of gem quality found in this diamond mine in the last couple of years.

The Gem Diamonds, which we have written about several times lately, has announced yet another important find from the Letseng mine in Lesotho. A 115 carat, colorless, type IIa diamond. This is the 9th diamond over 100 carats that the company finds in 2018 in the mine.
